Sikhs Celebrate, Guru Gobind Singh's 345, Birth Anniversary, Guru Gobind Singh was the tenth Guru of Sikhism. He was born in Patna, Bihar in India and became a Guru on 11 November 1675, at the age of nine years, succeeding his father Guru Tegh Bahadur. 

He was the leader of the Sikh faith, a warrior, a poet, and a philosopher. In the Sikh society, Guru Gobind Singh is considered a perfect example of manhood; highly educated, skilled in horsemanship, armed combat, chivalrous, and generous in character.

Amritsar and the Golden Temple saw a wave of devotees thronging to the Temple for prayers and holy dip. Guru Gobind Singh’s birthplace is in Patna Sahib, where he was born on December 22, 1666, but Golden Temple at Amritsar sees a lot of visitors because it is considered to be one of the most holy places by the Sikh community.

"Patna is the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh. The birth anniversary of the guru is being celebrated at the Golden Temple very well. Devotees are coming here with full devotion and celebrating the occasion," said Singh.

On the occasion, a religious procession was taken out from the Golden Temple.

Despite heavy fog and chilly weather, a large number of devotees converged for the procession to pay their obeisance.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated by people of all ages and religious faith. This was visible at Moti Jheel ground where people from all walks of life gathered to do 'seva' for the 'langar'.

Sardar Tirlok Singh said that on January 9, Nagar Keertan (holy procession) would be taken up at 4 pm from the Central Gurudwara Saheb and the procession would be marked by the rendering of Shabad Keertans (holy hymns).
