Accused Maudany Denied, Bail In Bangalore Blast Case (Lead), The Supreme Court Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nazir Maudany, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore blast case. It also denied his plea for medical treatment in Kerala. An apex court bench headed by Justice P. Sathasivam said: "We are not inclined to enlarge him on bail."

When senior counsel Sushil Kumar appearing for Maudany asked the court to add that they were not inclined to enlarge him on bail at "this stage", the court declined the request saying in that case, "some one will move the court again in February".

Maudany was let off after being an undertrial prisoner in Coimbatore jail from 1998 to 2007 in the Coimbatore serial bomb blast case of 1998.

Kumar pleaded that Maudany be released on bail as he was falsely implicated and cited his acquittal in the Coimbatore bomb blast case after nine-and-half years of incarceration as proof of his innocence.

He further submitted that the accused, who had to undergo amputation of one of his legs and was suffering from serious spinal problems and associated symptoms, was no threat to the law enforcing agencies.

Maudany's counsel Kumar's argument, however, failed to impress the court, which observed, "in a lighter vein, we would like to say, people need not do things physically. They can do wonders even while sitting at one place".
