Story written by Reema and Zoya Akhtar, ‘Talaash’ grips you from the very first shot and keeps you hooked through the two and half hours of its run time. A tale of loss, betrayal and revenge, the film explores the many versions of truth and questions the obvious, leaving the viewer thinking of things unexplained.

Story:

Surjan Singh Shekhawat who has been entrusted the task of solving a high-profile murder case of a film star is up against a dead-end. Will he, won't he be able to take the case to a natural conclusion?

While initial reports suggests it to be an accident, Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhwat (Aamir Khan), who is investigating the case, finds a murky case of blackmailing which may have a connection with the accident.

It is this very psychological post-mortem of why over who that dictates the immensely fascinating and absorbing developments of Reema Kagti's "Talaash".

But as Kagti is a bit hasty in giving out clues, I can't say I was blindsided by the turn of events. When one has watched enough films dealing with such elements, the did-not-see-it-coming astonishment is substituted with an appreciation (or otherwise) for approach. And that's why I doubly applaud her ability to keep me untiringly hooked for nearly 150 minutes.

It is first of the frightening but effectively picturised mishaps to follow reinforcing my belief over the course of Talaash that Kagti's got what it takes to make a robust action film. She films her most vigorous scenes with a kinetic energy that's enormously realistic and heady.

The greatest accomplishment of this suspense drama is the cast -- both immediate and extended. I cannot think of a greater compliment except no actor could have (or should have) done the roles except the ones who did. Aamir Khan, Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Subrat Dutta, Raj Kumar Yadav or Aditi Vasudev (Do Dooni Chaar's Payal) are all perfectly cast.

Talaash makes Mumbai look like a moll -- dirty, used, but also thrilling and enticing.

The plot revolves around a bizarre high profile death of a movie star Armaan Kapoor (Vivaan Bhatena). Aamir Khan (Surjan Singh Shekhawat) is the cop in charge of the case. The clues lead him to Mumbai's red-light area where he jostles between pimps and prostitutes looking for answers.

It's also revealed that Surjan is married to Roshni (Rani Mukerji). But he is like a man possessed on the job because of a sensitive incident in his life.

In a bid to bury his head in the sand and escape his personal demons, he directs all his energies into his khaki uniform.

Coming to the Armaan Kapoor case, vital clues keep taking him to a working girl called Rosie (Kareena Kapoor). Between piecing the mystery together, the cop and the call-girl, develop a relationship that goes slightly beyond the regular.
